Broadway musical DREAMGIRLS visited South Korea for the first time! Last May 27th, my friend and I headed to Charlotte Theater in Jamsil, Seoul to watch the fabulous show.
DREAMGIRLS follows the journey of the young singing stars trying to make it big in the music industry and the price they pay struggling to maintain their relationships with one another, their family, and significant others. These ladies go through fame, jealousy, greed, love, and loss at the costs of success and ambition. This fun and emotional musical which depicts fantasies of freedom, self-expression and the price of success made me clap to the beat, dance in my seat, laugh and cry. The show is a roller coaster of emotion and covers mature topics you wouldn’t normally see in a musical. I already watched the film so I didn’t expect that I would cry but I did. I should have worn waterproof make up. LOL.
Though I love all the songs in the musical, my favorite is Effie White’s I am Changing. It is truly an inspirational song for all those who want to be a better person! Effie White’s role was portrayed by Ms. Brit West on that day, and gosh, what a powerful voice she got!
Normally it is not allowed to take photos or videos inside the theater but as a special gift to the fans in Korea, Dreamgirls allowed the audience to take photos and videos during the curtain call only from May 23 – May28. Woot!
